As a whole, Downtown Calgary was established as a neighbourhood in 1884. Just a year prior, the Canadian Pacific Railway had arrived, establishing the city’s arrangement of streets and avenues. Today, Downtown West stands as its own neighbourhood within the western section of Downtown Calgary. Its north boundary is formed by the Bow River, while 9th street west is found to its east. The Canadian Pacific Railway forms the southernmost boundary, while 14th street west forms its westernmost.
