Ramsay Real Estate: a Mix of Fantastic Infill Homes

Development began in the area now known as Ramsay in 1880 by Wesley Fletcher Orr and his partners. The community was officially established in 1914, but it was not until 1956 that the area became known as Ramsay. It was named after William Thompsom Ramsay, a property owner and an early land agent born in 1857. This new community was formed after the consolidation of four smaller communities: Burnsland, Brewery Flats, Grandview, and Mills Estate. Ramsay is located east of the Elbow River with the CPR Mainline forming its northern border, the CPR tracks forming its eastern border, and 26th avenue forming its southern border.

Due to a recent flurry of infill development, Ramsay offers a unique range of real estate options. A mix of single detached homes, duplexes, row houses, and apartments are available in a range of architectural styles. Though the neighbourhood supports a variety of housing styles, the Ramsay Community Association actively works to keep development in line with their community vision. A Ramsay Beautifications Committee is also working within the neighbourhood to paint vibrant murals within the urban fabric. Ramsay is currently home to approximately 2000 residents and a collection of small businesses. Ramsay’s older homes are located in its eastern portion.

A Beautiful Community with Great Views, Downtown Access, and Green Space

The majority of the western portion of Ramsay offers sensational views of the mountains and the city. Home to Scotsman’s Hill, it’s known as one of the best areas to get views in Calgary. It was once a popular spot for locals to view the closely located stampede without paying. In addition to fantastic views, Ramsay offers an outdoor ice rink, a baseball diamond, and a tennis court for the community to enjoy. Surrounded by the natural amenities of the Elbow River, Ramsay has excellent access to the city’s network of pathways. The area is served by multiple schools: Ecole St. Anne Elementary, both junior and senior (part of the Calgary Catholic School District), Janus academy (a private school for those with autism spectrum disorder), and Ramsay elementary school.
